Welcome! This E-Learning program consists of some basic information and scenarios to help you learn the principles of privacy and confidentiality under current legislation.

When you complete this program, you will be able to:

  • Understand:
    • a patient/client/resident's (hereafter referred to as a patient's) privacy rights
    • your privacy and confidentiality obligations as an employee or affiliate
    • what information is considered confidential
  • Apply principles of privacy and confidentiality to your daily decision-making.

How do I use this E-learning program?
The program consists of 4 general learning modules to read. The 5th module will require you to:

  • select the learning module that best reflects your role at the hospital (e.g., physician, Regulated Health Professional, non-clinical support, etc.).
  • answer scenerio-based questions. Answers and explanations are provided with each question.
  • identify yourself (e.g., first and last name, department/division, etc.) to allow us to track your completion of the E-Learning program. If you are a hospital employee you will be required to provide the Employee # found on your pay stub.

After completing the E-Learning program, you will be asked to print, review, and sign the Privacy and Confidentiality Agreement. Send signed Agreements to the Privacy Office at:

LHSC Privacy Office
Room LL 108
800 Commissioners Rd E.
London Ontario N6A 5W9

The Privacy Office tracks the completion of the E-Learning program and receipt of signed Agreements. Agreements are maintained in:

  • an employee's Human Resources file
  • a physician's Medical Affairs file
  • in a location appropriate for other affiliates, e.g. with the signed contract of a contracted agent.
